The shunning / by Lewis, Beverly,

Publication: Minneapolis : Bethany House, 1997 . 283 p. ; 22 cm. Date:1997

Frustrating. Seemed like at least two major plot lines were left unresolved at the end of the novel. Characters were well draw, with each one's personality clearly shown. I felt like I knew and understood each character. I'm curious, now to read more by this author to see if it's her "style" to leave the plot open ended of if this book was an oddity. Flight behavior : by Kingsolver, Barbara.

Publication: New York : Harper, 2012 . 433 p. 24 cm. Date:2012

This book, Barabara Kingsolver’s new one, is a gripping tale about climate change and the study of an unexpected change in nature. The monarchs, instead of flying on to Mexico, stop off in Appalachia. Our hero is a feisty, brilliant young wife and mother, held down by poverty and the expectations of her community. It is the story of how the world can change, and how people still have to live the lives they are given. Great book, Kingsolver did it again. (remember The Poisonwood Bible?) Added 01/11/2013 by

The barmaid's brain and other strange tales from science / by Ingram, Jay.

Publication: New York : W.H. Freeman, 2000 . xi, 271 p. : , Originally published: Toronto, Ont. : Viking, 1998. 22 cm. Date:2000

I love to read about science and it's application to our daily lives, but I found this book frustrating. It seems to be a series of unsolved mysteries that remain unsolved at the end of each chapter. The author does not opine or suggest resolution to any of them so far. (I'm 3/4 of the way through the book). He does not put forward any of his own ideas, merely summarized the mysteries and the research done so far. I much prefer Jared Diamond. Added 09/19/2012 by
